Warrnambool Carnival 2007

This year our horse Menkaure was entered at the three day racing carnival at Warrnambool after finishing second (after over racing) in the Yalumba Hurdle at Oakbank.

beautiful spot on the south western coast the town turns to racing for those three days a year. In particular the jumps racing. There are three feature races The Brieley Steeplechase on Tuesday The Galleywood Hurdle on Wednesday and The Grand Annual on Thursday as well as the Warrnambool Cup.

Menkaure was entered in the Brieley and the Grand Annual but unfortunately the weather and the track conditions weren't the the best for him. He ran a game race to finish fourth in the Brieley, which was a great effort considering he likes the firmer ground and it was his first time over the higher steeples.

We didn't have much choice really but to scratch him in the Grand Annual as it was just too heavy and only got worse.

Anyway what a spectacle to watch them head out of the racecourse proper, cross Alfred Rd head through the steeples in Brieleys paddock, back across the top of Alfred Rd into Granters Paddock and across Tozer Rd back to the racecourse. Heartstopping as they fly over each steeple and turn sharply right or left but exciting. Anyway all things going well there is always next year. The missing hair above his eye is from a side swipe in the float heading to trial at Warrnambool the week before!
